The new version of the character was created by cosplayer and model Sierra, who is known on Instagram by the screen name @waifucece. The cosplayer portrayed Hange in his standard Survey Corps uniform and post-time jump anti-personnel maneuver gear. Several of the images also show the leader on horseback.

The character of Hange Zoë first appeared in the attack on titan manga at the beginning of Volume 3, where they were introduced as the Survey Corps’ eccentric titan researcher.
