Falco’s New Jaw Titan changes the series ending

Episode 27 of the final season of Attack on Titan introduces Falco’s Jaw Titan, the last and arguably the best of the Nine Titans.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Attack on Titan Season 4, Episode 27, “Flashback,” now streaming on Funimation, Hulu, and Crunchyroll.

Falco Grice’s Jaw Titan is attack on titan‘s latest shine as his derpy looking no-nonsense Titan form has now become one of the best designed Titans in the series. Things went from bad to worse in the battle at the harbor as Reiner and Annie’s Titans fought to fend off the Jaegerists’ Thunder Spear barrage. Despite the risks, Falco sprang into action and transformed into the Jaw Titan for the first time, completely turning the tide of the battle, despite losing control of his Titan powers.

When a subject of Ymir transforms into a mindless titan, their new titan body is often disproportionate and ugly. However, acquiring one of the Nine changes Titan’s form to that of a killing machine. In most cases, a Titan Shifter’s Titan body closely resembles his human appearance. To Falco, however, his Jaw Titan body seems to have been inspired by his subconscious.

Falco’s new Jaw Titan is distinctly bird-like in appearance, which seems appropriate; its introduction in attack on titan it came while he was lying on his back, watching a bird and deliriously muttering about a dream in which he had been flying. For Falco to have acquired a bird-like Titan, just as the group is struggling with the setup time for Azumabito’s flying boat, feels like a huge dose of foreshadowing.

In a nostalgic turn of events, Falco completely lost control of his Jaw Titan the moment he transformed. Pieck Finger warned him that the first transformation never goes well, as the Scouts of the group well know from Eren’s first transformations into the Attack Titan in which he went berserk. Bertholdt Hoover is the only Titan Shifter in the series noted to have controlled the Titan from him during the first transformation. Fortunately, the Jaegerists vastly outnumbered the Scouts and Marleyans trying to stop Eren, so they took the brunt of Falco’s rampage.

As for the strength of Falco’s Jaw Titan, Porco Galliard looks more and more like the worst Titan Shifter of all time. The previous heir to the Jaw Titan, Porco spent most of his time being blasted with Thunder Spears or beaten nearly to death by Eren’s Attack Titan. Porco’s jaw titan never accomplished anything worth mentioning in any of his time on the battlefield, but Falco’s jaw titan may have saved the world by keeping Marleyans and scouts from being overwhelmed. by the Jaegerists. If an inexperienced Falco can be a Titan’s wrecking machine in combat, the new Jaw Titan should be a force to be reckoned with once the highly trained Warrior Candidate gains control of it.

Although Falco’s Titan nearly overpowered Pieck’s Cart Titan, the crisis was quickly averted when Theo Magath used the opportunity to slice Falco off the back of the Jaw Titan’s head. In addition to Rumbling’s world-ending capabilities, it’s clearer than ever that Titan’s dominance is coming to an end.

The group of Marleyans and Scouts hoping to stop Eren owns five of the Nine Titans, with each Titan Shifter having to be helped or brought to the ship in varying degrees of unconsciousness after the confrontation with the Jaegerists. Falco inherited the Jaw Titan from him at the worst possible time, considering that it has never been more dangerous to be a Titan Shifter than it is now thanks to the advent of advanced weaponry like Thunder Spears.

Falco is currently taking a well-deserved break after saving the day with his Jaw Titan and hopefully he’ll have better control over it the next time he needs it. After all, stopping Eren from crushing the Earth with Rumbling is very likely to result in another battle or two. Only next time, Falco may not have the luxury of a large number of enemies to make up for his lack of control. Only one episode left in AOT‘s Final Season: Part Two, however, the story is clearly nowhere near its end. It may be some time before fans see Falco’s extraordinary Jaw Titan in action again in whatever form the conclusion of attack on titan taking.
