Pokemon Debuts Nostalgia-Fed Video Celebrating Anime’s 25th Anniversary

Fresh off the 25th anniversary of video games, Pokémon celebrates a quarter century of anime with a nostalgic look at the television series.

Pokemon released a new video celebrating 25 years of Ash Ketchum’s adventures.

The nostalgic new compilation video was released through the official site Pokemon anime twitter account The video presents clips from the 25 years of the main Pokemon animated, ranging from Ash and Pikachu’s tumultuous first encounter to his most recent adventures with Goh in the current season of Pokemon Master Journeys: The Series. The video may also serve as a retrospective of the entire franchise, as it walks through the anime adaptation of each of the franchise’s eight generations, soon to be nine, while documenting Ash’s difficult path to becoming a Pokémon Master. The video ends with a message of thanks to viewers who have joined Ash and Pikachu on their adventures over the past quarter century.

the Pokemon The anime originally debuted on April 1, 1997, a little over a year after it was released by Game Freak and Nintendo. Pocket Monsters: Red and Green Version for the original black-and-white Game Boy in Japan on February 27, 1996. For its entire run, the series was produced by studio OLM, the studio behind the recently successful comedy series. While a year separated the anime’s premiere from the original games’ release in Japan, the television show premiered in North America just a month after Nintendo released the original games, now localized under the title Versions of Pokémon Red and Bluein 1998.


The anime’s big anniversary celebration comes after The Pokémon Company wrapped up its year-long celebration of the video game franchise’s 25th birthday. Nintendo and Game Freak celebrated the year by releasing a host of new games, including Pokémon Unitedcompetitive free-to-play MOBA-style gameplay and Pokemon Shiny Diamond and Shiny Pearl, a 3D remake of the original pair of main series DS games. The franchise began the year launching Pokémon Legends: Arceusa new title that renews the series with a new, more open structure, and the announcement of Pokémon Scarlet and Violetthe ninth generation of games in the series, scheduled for release on the Nintendo Switch before the end of the year.

Meanwhile, the current season of the anime series is being streamed on Netflix, which is releasing new episodes in batches. Coinciding with the current nostalgic mood of the franchise, this season of the show sees Ash and Goh revisiting regions and old friends from past seasons of the show. The last batch of new episodes was released on January 21; Netflix has yet to announce when it will release the next batch of episodes.
