After being delayed due to a ransomware attack, Toei Animation has finally committed to a new release date for the next Dragon Ball movie.
Dragon Ball Super: Superhero will now open in Japan on June 11.
The new premiere date was finally confirmed with an official announcement on the Dragon Ball website. As a list of the film’s novelizations suggested above, the film has been pushed back from its original release date of April 22 and will now open in Japan this summer. No details on the film’s international release were announced; before the delay Super Hero it was originally planned to release in North America sometime this summer. It’s still unknown if those plans are still in place or if the film’s Western release was pushed back as well.
The film’s original release date was removed after Toei Animation was the target of a ransomware attack, which affected production at several of the studio’s most popular properties. According to the study, an unauthorized third party gained access to the company’s private servers, leading to a prolonged shutdown of its network. In addition to Dragon Ball Super: Superheroseveral of Toei’s television anime series, including the One piece Y Digimon: Ghost Game anime, had to delay the release of new episodes for more than six weeks.
Super Hero tells an original story set several years after the events of Dragon Ball Super: Broly. The film features the return of some of Goku’s oldest enemies, the Red Ribbon Army, who have once again created a pair of android warriors to exact revenge on their Saiyan nemesis. While Goku has traditionally been the Red Ribbon Army’s primary target, the film will focus on the master/disciple relationship between Goku’s son, Gohan, and his original martial arts master, Piccolo. The Namekian will also receive a new transformation in the film, the name of which tentatively translates to the “Unlocked Potential” form, giving the former villain a golden color scheme. Gohan’s daughter Pan will also have a big presence in the story, as she is now old enough to start learning martial arts and has become Piccolo’s last student.
While the animated entries in the series have had to change their schedule, the dragon ball super The manga has continued to run without delay and is currently nearing the end of its current story arc, the Granolah the Survivor saga. The next installment is scheduled to be released on April 20, the same week as Super Hero It was originally planned to be brand new.
