How to cosplay Moon Knight from the new Marvel show

moon knight is the latest Disney+ miniseries to be released and MCU fans are excited to see a new character to cosplay. Oscar Isaac plays Marc Spector, aka Moon Knight, a mercenary with dissociative identity disorder (formally called multiple personality disorder). With costumes directed by Meghan Kasperlik, who has worked on other superhero movies like The incredible Spider-Man 2 and The dark knight rises, the costumes will surely surprise. Fortunately, Moon Knight’s different personalities allow for many costumes and varying degrees of difficulty to recreate.

As Marc Spector, Isaac’s costume is a more relaxed combination of windbreaker and hoodie, as depicted on the film’s poster, although screenshots show the jacket as a brown cotton or canvas jacket. Either way, this is an easy to put together wardrobe cosplay. Layer the thicker jacket over a zip-up hoodie with a dark shirt underneath or go for the windbreaker look paired with a gray hoodie.

Isaac’s costume for Mr. Knight can vary in difficulty depending on how detailed you want to cosplay. At its core, the Mr. Knight costume is simply a gray/white three-piece suit with an additional face mask. The face mask is similar in style to the ones worn by Spider-Man cosplayers. A face shield may be worn with the mask to create a more rigid mask appearance. Then add the embossed moon emblem and decorative stitching on the front.

If you want to take this up a notch, you can try replicating all of the various textures and patterns used on the costume from the movie. The suit jacket is made of a light gray textured fabric, as are the trousers, waistcoat and tie. The vest also has decorative embroidery along the hems. It’s not hard to find a basic men’s suit pattern, but look for one that has the right fit for your body. For the vest, McCall’s pattern 8133 can give you a good starting point for lapels with some adjustments as needed.

Finally, if you’re up for a big challenge, try creating the Egyptian-inspired Moon Knight costume. Like the mummies, Isaac’s costume is covered in strips of cloth. Except these aren’t tattered, spontaneously wrapped bandages. All strips are finished, neat and intricately placed. Be prepared to do a lot of cutting and sewing, but it’s great practice for creating straight seam lines.

One option that can save you some time is to invest in a bias tape manufacturer. You can buy cheaper gadgets that will fold the strips of fabric as you stretch and iron; Or, if this is something you’ll be using often and worth the investment, Simplicity has a bias tape maker that has an automatic feed and built-in iron, allowing you to make 12 feet of bias tape in less than one minute.

From there, it’s a careful pattern of the wraps that you’ll want to sew together or, preferably, sew into a bodysuit so they stay in place. The chest piece can be created from worbla or foam covered worbla and then wrapped with bandages as well. This same technique can be used for shoulder pads, greaves, and gauntlets. For the cape, the Simplicity 1040 pattern has a fantastic cowl pattern to use and the cape can easily be created from the same pattern with a bit of modification.

Now that you have some information to get you started, get ready to get a better look at the costume now that the show premieres on Disney+ today, March 30, 2022.
