The fate of the villains is varied. Many are redeemed before they die or have a second chance at life. Some are left alive with an ambiguous fate. Others receive no punishment, although they certainly deserve it.
And then there are those villains who go to their graves in a way that ironically mirrors their own actions, shocked by their false assumption of invincibility. For certain anime villains, their disappearance perfectly portrays the “what happens, comes around” sentiment, ending up being the very victims of their own schemes.
10 Gluttony is consumed by his own brother (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
as one of Fullmetal Alchemist: BrotherhoodSeven Deadly Sins, Gluttony is perpetually hungry and never hesitates to carelessly devour his victims with stomach-churning sound effects. But after doling out cruel punishment one too many times, Glutton experiences what is at the opposite extreme. Seeing Gluttony as a liability due to his depleted Philosopher’s Stone and finding his childish violence a hindrance, Gluttony’s older brother Homunculus Pride uses his prehensile shadow tentacles to eat him. This adds Gluttony’s keen sense of smell to Pride’s already impressive list of abilities and ends the existence of Gluttony, who can only desperately call on his long-dead sister Lust as he perishes.
9 Combustion Man blows himself up (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
avatar the last airbender‘s “Combustion Man” is a Fire Nation bounty hunter who can collect chakra on his forehead and expel it through the tattoo that decorates it in an explosive and destructive burst. After Zuko suspects that Aang survived Azula’s electrocution, he sends Combustion Man to kill the Avatar.
When Zuko finally turns on his father and tries to join Team Avatar, he tries in vain to cancel the bounty hunter. Sokka uses the angle of his attacks to gauge Combustion Man’s position and stuns the hit man with a boomerang attack. The maneuver stuns Combustion Man momentarily and blocks his chakra tattoo, ensuring that he self-destructs on his next attempt.
8 Count Cagliostro’s desire for the treasure leads to him being crushed (Lupine III: The Castle of Cagliostro)
Along Miyazaki Lupine III: The Castle of Cagliostro, the evil regent Count Cagliostro seeks to marry Princess Clarisse of the Grand Duchy of Cagliostro by force. If he is successful, he intends to use the gathering of both sides of the family to locate the Royal Family’s secret treasure. The Count is increasingly cruel to Clarisse each time he has her in his hands, even hitting her more than once. The Count’s desire to seize the treasure at all costs leads him to ruin. While he manages to unlock the location of the treasure, the process involves climbing inside a clock tower. When the mechanism activates, the hands of the clock strike noon, crushing the Count to death.
7 The light is at Ryuk’s mercy just as others were at his (Death Note)
Light Yagami was a regular high school student before discovering the Death Note. Intrigued by his possibilities, Light convinces Shinigami Ryuk to let him keep him, promising that his intentions will provide Ryuk with entertainment. Using his new tool, Light begins writing down the names of criminals and kills them, causing mass deaths while contributing to his own idea of making the world a better place. Over time, Light’s aspirations evolve to eliminate anyone who opposes him. Light sets himself up as a godlike figure and doles out judgment under the name of Kira, using anyone and by any means he can. When Light is finally caught and injured, Ryuk gives Light the same treatment he had given the others.
6 Father receives eternal despair beyond the gate for abandoning his humanity (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
After using the souls of Amestris to create the ultimate Philosopher’s Stone and gain the power of God, the Father of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood he is beaten by Edward Elric and cast into divine judgment before Truth itself. There, the father is harshly reprimanded in his original form for never understanding humanity and his essential weakness or growing beyond his days in the jar, despite wanting to learn the world’s knowledge.
For his madness, the Father is sentenced to eternal despair beyond the Gate and is dragged screaming to his doom. As the father wonders what he should have done, he experiences an ironic demise for one who once stood above humans, condescendingly lecturing his human sacrifices that his losses were deserved.
5 Hidan’s slow creepy ending reflects his violent sadism (Naruto Shippuden)
naruto shippuden‘s Hidan is a violent Akatsuki member who was recruited after the organization was sent to kill him for slaughtering bystanders in the name of the Jashin religion, an act that earned him immortality. Taking great pleasure in violently killing people, Hidan kills the Hidden Leaf Jonin Asuma Sarutobi, leading Asuma’s student Shikamaru to seek revenge against him. Taking advantage of Hidan’s overconfidence and bloodlust, Shikamaru tricks Hidan into consuming the blood of fellow Akatsuki member Kakazu, destroying one of the latter’s hearts. Shikamaru then immobilizes Hidan and blasts him to pieces with explosives. Hidan is buried at the bottom of the well, his immortality forcing him to slowly die from lack of nutrition.
4 Hakudoshi aims too high and overestimates his power (Inuyasha)
Hakudoshi is an embodiment of inuyashaNaraku’s main villain. Originally part of an incarnation called an Infant, the latter split in half and one became a Hakudoshi. Hakudoshi shares Naraku’s powerful and manipulative personality and enjoys causing pain for his own reasons. Originally Naraku’s right-hand man, Hakudoshi plans to usurp him and rule alongside the Infant. Unfortunately, Hakudoshi’s lack of loyalty and discretion costs her when he brags about his plans with Inuyasha. In response, Naraku leaves Hakudoshi to die by being sucked into the wind tunnel, depriving him of the honor of dying at Naraku’s hands or being sacrificed to his enemies.
3 The very beings that Zagred mocked banded together to kill him (Black Clover)
black clover‘s Zagred is a powerful demon with a superior attitude towards elves and humans. In the backstory, he manipulated Elf’s massacre and corrupted Patry into a villain. These actions were part of his plan to acquire a body for himself so he could inflict more pain. Zagred’s heart is his weak point, but his demonic nature allows him to move. This failsafe is bypassed when Yuno uses Dark Magic to split it in two. Since Zagred’s powers don’t allow him to counter dark magic, Asta is able to kill him. Zagred dies, surprised that such beings could defeat him and, like salt in the wound, outwitted by a demon he ridiculed.
two Jogo experiences the fiery end he loved to inflict on humans (Jujutsu Kaisen)
A curse of disaster jujutsu kaisen, Jogo embodies the hatred that humans feel towards Earth. His powers include fire and lava, but Jogo also possesses a short temper and an ego that allows him to believe that he is more formidable than he really is. Jogo believes that he and the other Disaster Curses are “real humans”, despising and killing real humans for being inferior and deceitful.
Jogo ultimately falls against Sukuna due to his ego, unable to win the bet that the King of Curses would obey him if he could defeat him. Having failed, Jogo at least gets the consolation that Sukuna considers him a strong opponent before he is burned.
1 The colossal titan begs for his life before being eaten (Attack on titans)
The Colossal Titan is the first Titan seen in attack on titan and the second largest overall. He officially begins the story by breaking through the wall into the Shiganshina district, the first Titan invasion of human territory in a century. This leads to the death of Eren Yeager’s mother and launches the heroes on their journey. However, the Colossal Titan is actually unsuitable for combat, as he mainly produces steam by sacrificing his own body parts before disappearing. Eren and Armin manage to defeat the Colossal Titan after discovering this weakness. Ironically, the titan is eaten alive in his human form by Armin as a titan, screaming and begging for his life as a human would.
