the debut of Spy x Family The anime adaptation is just days away from premiering, and before one of the biggest anime series of the spring season for 2022 arrives, we wanted to fill you in on the most important information to know before the show arrives. First arriving as a manga from creator Tatsuya Endo in 2019 in the pages of Shonen Jump, the spy thriller has plenty of action and humor that sets it apart from many other stories on the market.
The upcoming first season will be produced by two giants of the anime business, with Wit Studio and Cloverworks combining forces to bring the story of Twilight and her fake family to life. With Wit as responsible for the first three seasons of attack on titan and the recently praised Ranking of Kingsand Cloverworks responsible for companies such as My Dress-Up Darling and Wonder Egg Priorityanimation will surely be something else for Spy x Family.
So what is the story of this series? Well, a notorious and successful spy known as Twilight, a young man who has the ability to change his appearance, is sent on a mission in which he will need to have a family to achieve it. Adopting a surrogate daughter named Anya and marrying a fake wife in Yor, Twilight is unaware that his new family has secrets of their own. Anya is a telepath who has the ability to read people’s minds, while Yor is one of the greatest assassins the world has ever seen. Needless to say, the series is packed with action, but it also has some funny and awkward moments to drive the story forward.
Crunchyroll offered an official description of the anime adaptation for Spy x Family which reads as such:
“Everyone has a part of themselves that they can’t show to anyone else. At a time when every nation in the world was engaged in a fierce information war going on behind closed doors, Ostania and Westalis had been in a state of war Westalis Intelligence Services Division Focused on the East (WISE) sends its most talented spy, “Twilight”, on a top-secret mission to investigate the movements of Donovan Desmond, the chairman of the Party of National Unity of Ostania, who is threatening peace efforts between the two nations.”
This mission is known as ‘Operation Strix’. It consists of ‘gathering a family in a week to infiltrate the social gatherings organized by the elite school Desmond’s son attends’. ‘Twilight’ assumes the identity of psychiatrist Loid Forger and begins to search for relatives. But Anya, the daughter he adopts, turns out to have the ability to read people’s minds, while his wife, Yor, is a killer! Since each has an interest in keeping these facts hidden, they start living together while their true identities are hidden. World peace is now in the hands of this new family as they embark on an adventure full of surprises.”
The release date of Spy x Family is this Saturday, April 9, with the first episode scheduled to land exclusively on Crunchyroll beginning at 11:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time. While a confirmed set of episodes for the first season has yet to be revealed, it looks like the story of Twilight and her new clan will be around twenty-four episodes long.
