Anime Los Angeles brings cosplay and fashion shows to the Long Beach Convention Center – Press Telegram

Anime Los Angeles took the Long Beach Convention Center by storm on Thursday, January 6, bringing together anime lovers to appreciate cosplay, see fan exhibits, and even have a masquerade.

The event, which runs through Sunday, Jan. 9, is expected to draw 13,000 people throughout the weekend, said Samantha Mehlinger, a spokeswoman for the Long Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“Anime LA is a fan-oriented event aimed at all kinds of people who like cosplay, anime and manga,” said Matthew Lewis, spokesperson for Anime Los Angeles. “We want people to come here and celebrate the things they love.”

At the event, there will be a cosplay fashion show, numerous showcases for different anime, a battle of the bands competition, and dancing.

And with the recent winter spike in coronavirus, Lewis said, all guests were required to show proof of vaccination or a negative test. He added that all staff are vaccinated and there is a strict mask policy.

“We try to foster an environment where people feel comfortable interacting with other people,” he said.
