Berserk Cosplay Will Make Sure Guts’ Giant Sword Actually Works

It has sparked much debate in Berserk circles as to whether or not it is possible to lift Guts’s giant sword. However, a cosplay makes it look good.

A growing debate over the years between crazed Readers have always been on whether or not Guts’ swordplay is, for lack of a better word, impractical. Of course, any sword that matches the size and stature of Guts’ Dragon Slayer is sure to be effective in battle, no doubt about it. However, that’s assuming anyone in real life could handle something of The Dragon Slayer’s size and stature.

Even for a man as strong and burly as Guts, holding such a large sword would not only be difficult, it would be nearly impossible. Regardless of how big or small a person is, it’s unlikely that they could even attempt to pick up Guts’ weapon of choice without pulling out some sort of hernia. then again, crazed it’s a manga, so it’s not too hard for readers to suspend disbelief without having to imagine real-life logistics.

However, cosplayer James Deeley of All or Nothing Cosplay continues to make the impossible seem possible in his cosplay as Guts. Not only does he manage to be The Black Swordsman with miraculous believability, but he also makes it seem just as believable to see a man put up with by Berserk Apostle Killer Sword 12 inches wide and over 400 lbs. Deeley has cosplayed before, but it is in his most recent cosplay that he displays the agility a normal-sized man is capable of while wielding an unusual weapon.

Perhaps the ridiculous nature of the sword compared to the man holding it is entirely intentional. See how volume 14 of Kentaro Miura’s crazed he sees Godot openly acknowledge that the sword is too big for anyone to lift to the point of being unusable, so he was surprised to see Guts use it to kill an Apostle with ease. It’s an image that may completely blow readers away, but they question the logistics of it when placed in a real-world setting. Perhaps that is why audiences to this day have yet to see some sort of live-action adaptation of crazed because the idea of a man holding such a large sword is just too ridiculous to suspend disbelief when placed in a real-world setting.

James Deeley challenges that notion often challenged by readers by making it look too easy, not to mention looking good doing it. Maybe there is hope for live action. crazed one day after all.
