Evangelion Releases Extremely Expensive and Limited Model of Shinji’s First Battle

Evangelion fans with a budget the size of NERV can now pre-order a limited-run figure that recreates Unit 01’s bloody battle with Sachiel.

Prime1Studio is now taking orders for its impressive, but pricey, new Unit 01 statue from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

In Hideaki Anno’s highly influential mecha anime, the brains behind the Evangelion project, Gendou Ikari, is constantly forced to deal with complaints about how expensive his giant semi-mechanical weapons are. That aspect of the series has been faithfully recreated in figure maker Prime1Studio’s new Unit 01 statue, which will set fans back $1,499 USD. The statue justifies that price with a towering 27-inch height, a premium fluorescent paint scheme that appears to glow even in low light, and illuminated LED eyes. The figure also comes with two interchangeable heads, so users can choose to display the Evangelion in his standard appearance or show his teeth as he goes berserk.

Pre-orders are now open, though interested parties will need to make a $149 USD deposit to reserve the statue. However, fans who can afford the figure should act fast, as only 500 copies of the figure will be produced.

The statue recreates Shinji Ikari’s first battle with an angel, which was depicted in the first episode of the classic 1995 anime series and remade in the 2007 film.
