In a quick moment, Boruto Chapter 66 paid homage to Naruto and Sasuke’s most iconic sequence, showing how homage is paid to old stories.

One of the most emblematic moments of naruto the tradition will always be when Naruto and Sasuke squared off against each other, unleashing their signature moves. It first happened in the Valley of the End in “The End of Tears”, where they opened the fight by crashing into each other, hands on deck to use these techniques, giving fans an epic fight.
Naruto ended up using Kurama’s chakra, hinting at how he and the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox would bond later, with Sasuke in his monstrous form after being poisoned by Orichimaru’s seal. The impact caused a huge shockwave, starting a fight that would end with Sasuke leaving his Konoha headband behind and defecting to take revenge on the fallen Uchiha clan.
The second instance was in naruto series finale, “Departure”, where they beat each other senseless years later. Sasuke betrayed Naruto after Kaguya was arrested, intending to rule the world and reshape the ninja age. They similarly attack each other at the climax, only to end up near death on the ground. It was all due to the chakra collision causing a bomb, destroying the valley again. This time, their signature moves were so powerful that each of them lost an arm. Fortunately, they eventually made up on the ground, bleeding but admitting that it was time to end the rivalry and build a better world together.
All this was remixed in boruto Chapter 66 when Kawaki and Boruto went to war. Momoshiki took over Boruto’s body while they were fighting a Bitter Code, prompting Kawaki to tap into his second Karma mark in the forests of Konoha. He needed to kill Boruto to prevent the villain from reappearing, so he rushed at his rival with his clawed fire hand, something Isshiki often used when he was in his alien form.
However, Boruto-Momoshiki did what the Hokage would do, speeding up with his Rasengan, mimicking Sasuke’s shot and Naruto crashing into each other. The energy collision would cause a massive shock wave, leaving Naruto, Shikamaru, and Code stunned at the damage caused. Only this time, the brooding Sasuke-like Kawaki was the hero, while Naruto’s corrupt son was the villain. boruto he reversed the script on his own past.
