The last decade has seen Mera’s actions in the DC Universe increase, and she totally outshines Aquaman in a stunning new underwater cosplay shoot.
In DC Comics, aquaman and mere work as a team but in a new and impressive underwater world cosplay, Mera completely outshines him. Cosplayer CassandraCosplay, in collaboration with Merrow Fins Photography, unveiled the incredible photo shoot in a series of Instagram posts. The shoot, done entirely underwater, was difficult to pull off, and the results are astounding, showing Mera in all her royal glory.
For many years, Mera existed in Aquaman’s shadow, relegated to support status. First appearing in 1963 Aquaman #11 and created by Jack Miller and Nick Cardy, Mera hails from the extradimensional realm of Xebel. She came to the DC Universe seeking Aquaman’s help, and the two eventually fell in love and married; their marriage a year later Aquaman #18 It was one of the first superhero weddings. The two had a son, Arthur Jr., but after he died at the hands of Black Manta, the two grew apart. Now, CassandraCosplays has presented a mind-blowing underwater shoot, featuring herself as Mera.
In a series of Instagram posts, CassandraCosplays featured the shoot, produced with Merrow Fins Photography. The first photo is of Mera’s full body, posing with her trident. In the caption, Cassandra points out how difficult the underwater shots are, but she praised the Merrow Fins’ skill, calling them “wizards”. The second shot, from the side, shows Mera holding her trident, ready for battle. Cassandra grew up near the ocean, a fact she shares in the caption; this created a connection with Mera and gave the shoot an extra personal touch for her. Both photos have been highly acclaimed; the first outtake has garnered over 13,000 likes and the second over 6,000.
Over the last decade, Mera has risen into something of a character and CassandraCosplays’ new photo shoot celebrates this ascension. Just as Aquaman has shed her reputation for being “useless,” Mera is no longer just a “damsel in distress” for Aquaman to rescue; The creators have increasingly emphasized Mera’s fantastic powers, her leadership abilities, and her immense inner strength. Mera has overcome the loss of her first child and her husband, but she has come back stronger than ever. CassandraCosplays captures this spirit, translating it into a spectacular photo shoot.
