From comic relief Pokémon to some battle royale threats, Misty has acquired a versatile team of monsters over the years. However, it’s clear that when it comes to Misty’s Pokemon, some are better than others, either in terms of fighting ability or overall importance in the animated series.

10 Azure

This baby Pokémon hatched from an egg given to Misty in season eight, and while it’s quite adorable, the Pokémon is still a newbie compared to the others in her collection. Azurill was often used to fight Team Rocket, but was not among the top fighters in Misty’s lineup.

Although Azurill is just a beginner in terms of battling experience, the water/fairy dual-type is still making a name for itself, which is one of the reasons fans love the mouse-inspired Pokemon.

Although the Pokemon is undoubtedly one of the cutest Water-types, Horsea doesn’t get much air time in the animated series. When he first appeared on the show, his main purpose was to spray ink in times of danger, which proved to be very effective against enemies.

However, in the later seasons, Misty made the decision to send Horsea back to the Cerulean Gym so she could swim freely and live a better life. While fans would have loved to see more of the Pokémon’s fighting potential, they agree that Misty’s difficult decision was in the best interest of Horsea’s well-being.

8 Starmie

Misty Starmie

Although many fans agree that Pokémon is successful in the games, viewers don’t see as much Pokémon in the actual series. Although Starmie was quite loyal to Misty and never wanted to let her down, the psychic water-type just wasn’t as fierce a competitor, and Staryu even fought harder, despite Starmie being her evolved form.

It is likely that Starmie was not used in battle as often as her predecessor Staryu because she did not win many battles throughout the animated series. Although Starmie didn’t have a place in Misty’s lineup for long, he likely didn’t mourn the loss after the few tears he shed, as he later replaced Starmie with much more powerful Pokémon.

7 Golden

Misty's Gold

Although the Goldfish-inspired Pokémon has come to the rescue of Misty and the gang multiple times during its run on the show, Goldeen has only won a battle once. While the Water-type is known for its intimidating horned attacks, its overall battle skills leave a lot to be desired.

Golden is often seen doing chores for Misty and her friends, but is limited solely to water activities, including transportation to various locations by the ocean, which is still very helpful. Based on the big picture, though, fans agree that Golden isn’t all that useful.

6 The weather in Corsica

Misty's corsola

Johto’s native Pokemon is known for its strong recovery power and is often underestimated. While not a very popular Pokémon, the Rock and Water dual-type makes a strong case during battles.

Many fans believe that her positive attitude and cuteness contribute to Misty’s strong bond with her. However, Corsola has many attributes that are often overlooked by viewers, and fans admire Misty for taking chances with this Pokémon.

5 staryu

Misty's Staryu

Staryu is seen as one of Misty’s most valuable Pokémon for the sole reason that it has won many battles over the years. Between her unique regeneration ability and her water gun attack, Staryu is a fierce competitor.

The Water-type Pokémon was often Misty’s favorite when it came to battles, even over its evolved form, Starmie. However, it’s hard for fans to deny why Misty should have made this decision, as Staryu is clearly a powerful Pokemon.

4 Politoed

Misty Politoed

Not only did this Pokémon manage to take down Team Rocket multiple times back in the Johto days, but Politoed was a fierce fighter in all its guises. One of the reasons Politoed is so admired within Misty’s lineup is because of his unique relationship with Misty, as Misty has joined the Pokémon in all three of her forms.

Although the Pokémon appears to belong to a different type based on its color, Politoed is certainly a fierce Water-type with its specialty being a water gun used in battles. All in all, Misty’s sidekick, who has evolved three times, is loved not only for his cute disposition, but also for his fierce fighting abilities.

3 psyduck

Misty's Psyduck

Although Misty and Psyduck had something of a love-hate relationship at first, the Pokemon actually brings a lot of skill to the table. This comically goofy Pokémon doesn’t always understand social cues, but when its ferociously effective Confusion power is in effect, its enemies are rendered powerless.

To cause the ultimate Confusion, Psyduck often needs a severe headache, sometimes Misty even hits him in the head on purpose. While that action on Misty’s part is pretty questionable, it seems to be worth it once Psyduck single-handedly distracts her opponents.

two Togepi

Misty's Togepi

There’s no doubt that Togepi ends up becoming one of Misty’s favorite Pokémon, as she is frequently seen taking it everywhere she and the gang travelled. From their baby form to their second Togetic form, these two have been through it all together.

Between Togetic’s battle strength and the special bond they form throughout the evolutions, they’re an iconic duo like no other. While fans were sad that Misty finally freed him, they were happy to have witnessed such a special relationship between Trainer and Pokémon.

1 Gyarados

Misty's Gyarados

Commonly known as one of the best Water-type Pokémon of all time, Gyarados’ power is hard to ignore. Though the Pokémon’s immense strength initially intimidated Misty, she soon overcame her fear once she obtained and tamed her own.

Stubborn like a wild animal hard to tame, various epic battle flicks like Hyper Beam, Flamethrower, and Hydro Pump, one of the most powerful water moves. Knowing this, there is no doubt that Gyarados is one of Misty’s most powerful Pokemon to this day.
