For better or worse, anime fans know that there is no stopping the wave of isekai, especially as more series are added to the already long list of titles in the genre. Maybe it’s the identification of an underdog flourishing in a fantasy world that resonates with the audience’s heart, or maybe it’s the escapist fantasy of being freed from the troubles of his own world.

Needless to say, the number of isekai anime continues to increase. These are some of the most anticipated isekai anime for spring 2022.

The Rising of the Shield Hero (Season 2)


The first season of The rising of the shield hero faced much controversy for the inclusion of a false accusation of rape, as well as Naofumi’s relationship with his peers. However, this hasn’t stopped the series from gaining a large and loyal following.


The rising of the shield hero follows Naofumi Iwatani as he builds his team after being betrayed, abandoned, and abandoned. Throughout his journey, Naofumi went against all odds and arguably outmatched the other heroes. He discovered multiple ways to become stronger, even managing to defend his new world from otherworldly heroes. Naofumi’s adventures continue in spring 2022 when Crunchyroll confirms that it will simulcast the anime’s second season.

Skeleton Knight in Another World follows the story of a player named Arc who, like most isekai protagonists, is transported to a fantasy world. His new body is the same as his avatar from the game, a skeleton wearing oversized armor. Arc tries to keep a low profile and avoid being mistaken for a monster, but his moral compass makes it hard to turn a blind eye to evil.


Based on the light novel series of the same name, Skeleton Knight in Another World will premiere on April 7 in Japan. Crunchyroll has acquired its distribution rights outside of Asia and will also begin streaming the anime once it airs.

The Rise of a Bookworm (Season 3)


Myne opens a book rising from a bookworm

Unlike the typical action-adventure path that most isekai titles take, The rise of a bookworm features a book-loving protagonist in the form of young Myne. Myne’s previous self was a bibliophile college student who died after being crushed by a pile of books. She is reincarnated in the body of a frail young girl, but her biggest problem is the lack of books in her new world.


First issue in 2019, The rise of a bookwormThe first season consists of 14 episodes, while the 12-episode season 2 was released just a few months later. After almost two years of waiting, fans of the series will finally be able to witness Myne’s new adventures starting on April 12.

Ya Kongming boy! is a reverse isekai anime that follows the renowned titular general and tactician during the Three Kingdoms period. As he is about to find the end of him, Kongming wishes to be reborn in a peaceful world. Next thing he knows, he’s suddenly living 1,800 years in the future. He wanders the streets of present-day Tokyo, where he befriends the young musician Eiko Tsukumi and uses her vast knowledge of war to help her fulfill her dream of becoming a star.


This comedy anime is being picked up by PA Works, the same studio that adapted the highly praised The Aquatope on white sand, and will be issued in April this year. The manga version of Ya Kongming boy! is also available for purchase from Kodansha USA.

The anime studio ENGI is responsible for the anime adaptation of Stuck in a dating simulatorwhich will begin streaming in April 2022. The light novels are also available for purchase through Seven Seas Entertainment.
