Kakegurui became one of the notable anime of 2017 for its intriguing plot and fascinating characters. The story revolves around Hyakkaou Private Academy, an educational institution where only students from rich and powerful families are accepted. The academy may look like a normal school, but at night it transforms into a whole new joint.

Kakegurui has featured characters who are well versed in tricking others with their mind games, asserting their manipulative abilities. Especially the protagonist Yumeko Jabani, who only plays for the thrill of the game rather than to win.

A lot of anime carries the essence of Gambling similar to Kakegurui. However, here is a list of the select ones that consist of manipulation, deception, and mind games.

10) akagi

An obsessive gambler named Nangou has accumulated a huge load of 3 million yen. Hoping to return to normal, he decides to bet his life on a game of mah-jong with a Yakuza.

However, the chances of winning the game began to slowly dissipate. Out of nowhere, the game was interrupted by the main protagonist Akagi Shigeru, who is on the run from the police.

Trying his luck one last time, Nangou handed the game over to Akagi. However, Nangou is unaware that Akagi is a Mahjong prodigy. He quickly overpowers the Yakuza and turns the tide in Nangou’s favor.

Souma Yukihara has been cooking and helping his father since he was a child. Working alongside his father for years as a sous chef, Souma developed exceptional culinary skills and impressed his customers by presenting incredible dishes.

With growing anticipation that he will one day surpass his father, out of the blue, he receives shocking news that turns his life upside down. Souma’s father decides to close the restaurant he owns in order to find a job that requires him to travel all over the world.

He enrolled his son in the prestigious Totsuki Saryo Culinary Institute, an elite culinary school where only 10 percent of the students end up graduating. Totsuki Saryo’s fierce Food Wars cooking competition and challenging environment await Souma’s capabilities.

Saki Miyanaga developed a hatred towards Mahjong despite being a genius at it. The reason behind the strong dislike of him was due to the strange family tradition of him. If Saki loses the game, he will also lose his assignments and if he wins in a row, his family will be angry. Saki resorted to keeping a low profile by keeping the score at zero.

However, Saki’s friend Kyoutarou Suga convinced her to join the school’s Mahjong club. The club members were amazed at her unusual balancing ability and convinced her to win. After Saki begins to unleash her abilities, the only goal that awaits her and her team is to win nationals.

Five boys named Kiyoshi, Gakuto, Shingo, Andre, and Jo were selected for Hachimatsu Private Academy. The institution was once an all-girls school, but after revamping its policies, it began accepting boys as well.

After being surrounded by thousands of girls, these shy people try to survive each day in the hope of communicating with their fellow students.

However, after committing an indecent act, they landed under the bars of the Underground Student Council’s school prison. All the children were sentenced to serve one month in prison as punishment. These guys have to push themselves every horrible day, keeping their composure and strengthening their bond with each other.

Following the upheaval of World War II, Lieutenant Colonel Yuuki, also known by his nickname Demon Lord, established a spy training organization called D-Agency. This organization consists of eight wonderful people who, in addition to being highly trained military men, are also exceptional in the art of manipulation.

Hiromichi Kojima is the legendary star baseball batter of the Saitama Lycaons. Kojima’s team has been losing consecutively and he is considered the weakest of all.

One fated day, as Kojima searches for a replacement for his injured teammate, he crosses paths with Toa Tokuchi. Kojima witnesses Tokuchi’s abilities and decides to recruit the latter for his team.

Kojima put his career on the line and defeated Tokuchi in his own game of One Outs. In this game, the pitcher and the batter duel 1 on 1 while betting on the results with money. With the arrival of Tokuchi to the team, things are going to get worse very fast.

In the moment after one’s death, they are destined to intertwine with the void or be reborn again. However, for the selected few, they end up in Quindecim. A place that may look like a fancy European bar, but it is not what everyone would expect. Quindecim is a bar run by a bartender named Decim who serves as the referee for these lost souls.

To pass through their trial, everyone who ends up in Quindecim has to play a game where winning or losing will decide their fate. Those who are victorious will be reincarnated and those who lose will be banished to the void.

Kaiji Itou is an unproductive and aimless thug who spends most of his time drinking or stealing from others. He is cheated by his former co-worker and saddled with a huge debt.

Unable to pay off the debt on his own, he accepts a shady offer in which he has joined an illegal backroom bet on a cruise ship.

In order to pay off his debts and earn a little money for himself, Kaiji has to survive everything that is thrown at him, without getting caught up in the manipulation of others.

Koudo Ikusei Senior High School is known for its reputation for housing elite students while providing them with modern facilities. However, behind its fanciful facade, the school treats its students with bias. Only those who have outstanding merits will end up in Class A and others who are not deemed capable will be dumped in Class D.

Kiyotaka Ayanokouji is a D-Class student, who likes to keep a low profile from his temper. After meeting Suzune Horikita and Kikyou Kushida, his situation begins to change and his presumption of a normal ideal life in high school begins to fade.
